It’s that time of year when bloggers or cigar media if you will name their Top Cigars of 2023. Our prerequisite is simple, the cigar had to be reviewed in the past calendar year. The score plays a major factor but we also consider how often we reached for the cigar post review. This year, 2023, our selection was small as we changed the website to include cigar reviews mid-year combining our love of liquor and the leaf. In future years you may see cigars that make the list that were released years ago, but this year, 2023 every cigar in our Top 5 Cigars of 2023 was released in 2023.
So without further adieu:
The #5 Cigar of the Year is Aganorsa Rare Leaf Maduro Belicoso. We scrambled to include this with the cigar getting a review just last week despite using it in a pairing review for Old Forrester Bottled in Bond. When the cigar first came out we smoked it multiple times a week. It’s a Medium-Full bodied cigar that features a San Andres Maduro wrapper. Available in three sizes the Belicoso is the only one that is box pressed and that makes a difference. It’s smooth, complex and well balanced with notes of almonds, cocoa and espresso.
