Well, we are back. I started The Liquor Authority in 2021, but it lasted only a few months as I had a health scare. I started to develop palpitations and thought it was alcohol related even though I drink in moderation most of the time. I stopped drinking from late summer until week 5 or 6 of the NFL season. Despite this the palpitations continued, so we were able to rule out alcohol. They still happen, and a cause has yet to be determined.
One of the cool things about this website is I began to try more liquor that I never had before in an attempt to create content. So today, we start things off with a liquor I like and would have never tried if not for the Liquor Authority. Founded in 2009, Wyoming Whiskey was the first legal distillery in the state of Wyoming. The distillery is located Kirby, Wyoming and aging is done in their six rick houses.
Review: Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch
ABV: 44% (88 Proof)
Type: Bourbon
Color: Dark Amber
Mash Bill: 68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley
Distillery: Wyoming Whiskey
Location: Kirby, Wyoming (USA)
The Nose: A nice amount of sweetness wafts upward from the glass revealing a nose of vanilla bean, cherries and raisins. Letting the libation breathe also reveals nuances of caramel and cornbread .
The Experience: Despite coming in at 88 proof the Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch bourbon has a light mouthfeel. However, the bourbon has a wonderful deep complexity to it creating an array of tasting notes that include caramel and raisins on the first sip with a subtle floral finish.
Finishing our 3oz pour of Wyoming Whiskey we are treated to additional tasting components such as vanilla, toffee, brown sugar along with a subtle hint of cinnamon.
The Pairing: We like to pair our adult beverages with a cigar, and for the Wyoming Whiskey we went with the Rocky Patel 60th which was made to celebrate the 60th birthday of Rocky Patel the owner of Rocky Patel cigars. Rocky has been in the business 1995 and today he sits as one of the largest independently owned cigar makers in the world. When paired with Wyoming Whiskey it helps bring out more woody notes from from the bourbon while enhancing the sweetness in the cigar which has notes of chocolate and licorice. We never allow our pairing to affect our scoring, but if we did it would increase the score by 2.
