Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery Series #10 was released in 2023 and is a blend of five distinct bourbons – of different mashbills, ages and sources. Primarily made up of Kentucky-sourced bourbons ranging from six to 13 years old, the blend is rounded out by two ten-year-old expressions hailing from Tennessee and Georgia.
- 62% 9 year-old Kentucky Bourbon (78% Corn, 13% Rye, 9% Malted Barley)
- 18% 13 year-old Kentucky Bourbon (75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley)
- 8% 6 year-old Kentucky Bourbon (53% Corn, 26% Rye, 21% Malted Barley)
- 10% 10 year-old Georgia Bourbon ( 80% Corn, 10% Rye, 5% Wheat, 5% Malted Barley)
- 2% 10 year-old Tennessee Bourbon (84% Corn, 8% Rye, 8% Malted Barley)
In a press release at the time of the release the company stated, “In January 2023, Bardstown Bourbon Co. released the Origins Series, a collection of three whiskies distilled, aged, blended and bottled on-site at the Kentucky distillery. Blending sourced whiskies, however, remains core to the brand’s identity, “We know there is a lot of delicious bourbon to be discovered out there, and we love to explore the art of blending to create singular expressions that can’t be replicated.”

The Nose: Just opening the bottle you could smell the sweetness of the Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery Series #10. Once it’s poured into a glass the opening aroma is powdered sugar and oak with a touch of honey. Letting the glass sit for a bit, the Discovery Series #10 opens up with vanilla and caramelized sugar giving it a creme brulee like aroma.
The Taste: After the wonderfully sweet aromatic nose of the pour the first sip caught me off guard with an abundance dry oak, cloves and an ample amount of rye. Secondary sips reveal a subtle sweetness in the background consisting of cherries and caramel alongside a subtle lingering cinnamon.
The Finish: The finish has a lingering dry heat that overstays its welcome just a little too long. Additionally, the pour of the Discovery Series #10 sees a finish of subtle cherry, dried apricots, rye and nuances of leather.
Conclusion: Bardstown Bourbon Company is built on their blending capabilities which shine in this pour. But at the same time I can’t help but wonder what the 62% 9 Year Kentucky Bourbon was that makes up the majority of the pour. In the same thought, I also wonder if you made your own infinity bottle at home containing 62% of a specific pour and utilizing the same percentages of other bottles if you would be able to taste that primary pour. Or if the bottle would indeed take on a whole new flavor profile.
Regardless, the Discovery Series #10 is a home-run with a warm finish making it the perfect winter pour to enjoy in front of the fireplace with a cigar or a even a pipe. I am not sure I would like it as much on a warm humid summer evening, but I’ll have to do that when the season comes around.
In 2023, the company released their origin series which is their own produced bourbon at their state of the art distillery. Look for future reviews of Bardstown Bourbon Company products here on The Barrel Burner as it is a company we plan to do a deep dive with.
