Nestor Miranda Special Selection was originally introduced in 2006 by Miami Cigar & Company. In 2014, the brand would be discontinued as Miami Cigar & Company decided to rebrand to the Nestor Miranda Collection. That new branding was met with mix results leading the company to bring back the Special Selection in 2019 as part of their 30th Anniversary.

The Cigar: From its iconic burlap wrapped box to copper foil on the band, the Nestor Miranda Special Selection stands out in a humidor. Utilizing additions of brown and white, the special selection features a gorgeous oily wrapper with a well packed cigar and no voids. It’s made in Nicaragua by My Father Cigars exclusively for Miami Cigar & Company and is available in three sizes. A short robusto called Coffee Break (4.5 x 50), a Toro (5.5 x 54), and a Grand Toro (6 x 60).
The Taste: The cold draw serves up subtle notes of graham cracker with a lingering molasses while the aroma from the foot is a warm molasses sweetness. After we toast the foot the cigar serves up a burst of pepper before pulling back to reveal notes of plum and espresso with a touch of wasabi encrusted nuts that is especially noticeable on the retrohale.
Moving on to the second third wasabi encrusted nuts remain the focal point with dark chocolate and espresso. As the second third comes to a close notes of cocoa and cedar take over the palate. The retrohale enhances the cedar component with some black pepper.
The final third sees a note of cashews develop with continued cedar, espresso and cocoa. The final third is robust in flavor and the strength moves to medium-plus. The retrohale sees continued cedar and pepper with some wasabi encrusted nuts.
Conclusion: Nestor Miranda Special Selection is my go to cigar and I always have some in my humidor. I’m not a big box buyer, but my last three box purchases have been Nestor Miranda Special Selection where I move between the Toro and Coffee Break sizes. Its a medium-full bodied cigar that is consistent, affordable and extremely flavorful.
