The made in Miami line of Cohiba is back for its 5 iteration. The Look: Featuring a blue, black, gold and white band with the trademarked red dot band the Cohiba Serie M stands out on the shelf. The cigars rolled by level 9 rollers features a closed foot and a pig tail cap. In the hand the cigar is exceptional light for its size which has me concerned the cigar will smoke fast or have burn issues. But the biggest issue I have is one of the two samples I smoked had a hole in the wrapper which is ridiculous since the cigar is $30.00. If you look close on the picture you can see it about an inch below the band. The cigar which are without cello feature a bar code built into the band to help retailers out.
The Notes: The cold draw once the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Azul 2025 is cut reveals notes of cedar, rye and a touch of cream that is reminiscent of the foam on a cappuccino. The aroma from the wrapper is earthy with notes of cedar and a touch of mocha. As we burn through the wrapper the draw is extremely fluid abut I wouldn’t call it a lose draw either. I do however wish there was more resistance.
As we smoke into the first third of ths heavy smoke producer there are creamy notes that as mentioned before are reminiscent of the foam on a cappuccino. There is also some subtle chocolate, caraway seeds and a touch of rye. As the first third comes to a close, rather quickly I might add there is a touch of pecans as well. The retrohale adds a nice amount of spice to the mix with a touch of brown sugar.
The second third sees the cigar become more nutty as the cigars have a definitive cashew taste along with some damp cedar and a continued creaminess. Around the halfway point of the cigar a rye bread note becomes dominant with wisp of mocha lingering in the background. As the second third comes to a close the pepper which is dominant on the retrohale makes it to the palate and the fingers with lingers ever so slightly.
As we smoke the final third the cigar transitions from nutty to woodsy before becoming earthy as we remove the primary band. In the final puffs there is earth, nuts and cedar in that order. The retrohale continues to serve up pepper notes with a bread like finish that makes it an enjoy right down to the fish.
Conclusion: There has been a lot of talk about tariffs when this cigar was initially reviewed and how they will affect the cigar industry. One of the less informed things I read was someone who wrote, they will just buy their cigars from US factories like El Titan de Bronze. These items would still see tariffs factored into the price as the tobacco is sourced from countries that would be subjected to tariffs.
Let’s get back to the cigar in hand; the flavors were enjoyable but the cigar smoked exceptionally fast with it being underfilled as noted by the picture below. At $30 a cigar shouldn’t be this underfilled, nor should there be a hole in the wrapper. As a notoriously slow smoker the cigar barely lasted over an hour which was disappointing as it seemed to smoke it self at times. If I smoked this cigar blind, which obviously I didn’t, I wouldn’t put a price over $12 on it.
Despite this, the Cohiba Serie M Reserva Azul 2025 is an enjoyable cigar except for the construction issues which dinged it about 4 points.
