The Cigar: The La Riqueza SE 2024 doesn’t have any special markings on the cigar and features the classic red and gold band of the line. There are no foot bands, ribbons or secondary labels denoting the SE so unless you are familiar with the line you would only know by the size. The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper isn’t as dark as some other offerings. In the hand the cigar is firm to the touch with no voids of tobacco. The seams of the roll are also quite visible.

The Taste: The cold draw reveals a delicious graham cracker sweetness with a touch of mocha and a very faint molasses. Meanwhile, the foot of the cigar reveals notes of cedar and nuts. Once we toast the foot cigar serves up notes of warm vanilla which gives way to cinnamon and mocha.

As we settle into the first third notes of cinnamon begin to fade as the cigar develops an earthy canvas with elements of coffee, and black pepper. As the first third comes to a close some cedar makes an appearance that are enhanced on the retrohale and the long finish.

As we enter the second third earth remains the focal point with some cinnamon notes joined by coffee and cocoa. As we cross over the halfway point some leather begins to emerge with increasing cocoa. As the first third comes a close some black licorice begins to emerge. Meanwhile all through the second half the retrohale sees cedar and black pepper.

As we move into the final third the black pepper fills the nasal passages on the resting aroma. On the palate there is earth and leather that become secondary with the primary profile being coffee and cocoa. The retrohale has some pepper to it which I expected to be more considering the aroma but cedar and a hint are more prevalent.

Conclusion: One of my favorite cigars of all time was the La Riqueza SE 2022 so needless to say I ran out and bought a box of these the moment my local cigar shop got them in stock. So the obvious question is how do they compare. There are some similarities in terms of flavor but there is something about it that just misses when compared to that release. As a stand alone however these are outstanding but despite being a small ring gauge fan I wish these were bigger. If it was the same size (5 5/8 x 54) as in ’22 this would have been a multiple box purchase.

If you can get your hand on these at $11.00 a cigar or $110 a box before any local or state taxes do yourself a favor, grab a box.
