Cigar Review: RoMa Craft Mon Cheri

RoMa Craft Mon Cheri is a limited edition cigar from Skip Martin & Mike Rosales.

In 2024, we here at The Barrel Burner have reviewed a lot of limited edition cigars and in 2025 we are going to make an attempt to review less limited edition cigars and more general production smokes. If that happens remains to be scene but it feels like we put to much emphasis on them this year.

In 2023, RoMa Craft released a cigar called Frenchy  named after for employee John D’Oliver. This year they follow it up with Mon Cheri utilizing the same blend of the Aquitaine EMH Frenchy. The cigar is a barberpole of the Aquitaine line. The two wappers are a Connecticut and Habano both from Ecuadow while the fillers are of the original CroMagnon blend before it was updated in 2024.

The Mon Cheri is limited to 650 bundles of 10 cigars.

The Cigar: The Connecticut wrapper is the primary tobacco on this barber pole that shows accents of habano wrapper. It’s the reverse of the Aquitaine EMH Saber Tooth in terms of appearance. The cigar lacks a band, but does have a brown ribbon footband. In the hand the cigar is firm with no voids of tobacco and an average weight.

The Taste: The cold draw serves up some figs and molasses with a hint of cayenne pepper. The foot serves up a subtle plum and cedar though it is a struggle to identify them and the aroma is very mild. Once the cigar is toasted and lit there are subtle notes of earth and cinnamon.

As we move into the first third the cigar continues with notes of earth and cinnamon with the occasional cedar, pepper and oats. The retrohale serves up additional notes of oats and leather with a subtle spice.

The second third sees notes of earth continue with a subtle cedar and oats. Around the halfway point the cigar develops a creamy finish with a touch of mild coffee (think a bit too much cream added). The retrohale serves up notes of leather and spice.

The final third is much of the same with notes of earth and leather and a subtle cedar and oats. The retrohale continues to serve up notes of leather and spice

Conclusion: The RoMa Craft Mon Cheri is a slow smoking cigar with a near perfect burn. It’s medium in strength but it lacks any complexity or flavor changes to keep me interested. It has a rather small production of only 6,500 cigars and Mon Cheri translates to my darling, but for me this is anything but which is a shame as I was looking forward to it.
