Black Works Studio Intergalactic Event Horizon is a limited edition offering made at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua. Available in three sizes; Petite Corona (4.75 x 46), Robusto (5.5 x 50) and Toro (6 x 48) with prices ranging from $11 to $12.00
According to the press release, “We are bringing out the dark side of Intergalactic with “Event Horizon”. The Event Horizon is wrapped in Pennsylvania Broadleaf which completely changes everything from the original 2022 Sumatra Intergalactic. This cigar is bold with flavors of dark fruits, raisins, earth and star anise. The long finish is a mix of pepper and chili spice followed by a hint of sweetness. The Event Horizon is extremely complex and very well balanced,” says James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

The Look: The band once I figured out what I was looking at made me laugh with the black works skull in a space helmet. The Petite Corona has one of the ugliest caps I’ve seen on a cigar with an almost pigtail at the top. The wrapper is ugly, with a shit ton (technical term) of veins hidden on the back side of the cigar so it doesn’t show up in photographs. In the hand the cigar is firm a nice weight to the Event Horizon.
The Taste: The cold draw of the Intergalactic Event Horizon has a nice mix of graham cracker, mocha and salt. The aroma from the closed foot has a subtle mineral and leather component to it making it an interesting contrast from the cold draw. Once the cigar is lit there is a nice marshmallow sweetness on the first puff.
Moving into the first third the marshmallow like sweetness transitions into a wonderfully abundant and easily identifiable brown sugar. As the first third comes a close hints of stone fruits emerge with some saltiness thrown in as well.The retrohale serves up a touch of anise and with some earth and nutmeg.
The second third sees the brown sugar remain as the stone fruits give way to mocha and and nutmeg. At exactly the halfway point the ash drops for the first time and the added heat brings forth a subtle earthiness and a touch of rye. The retrohale continues to show anise which lingers on the finish and some subtle raising sweetness.
Sliding into the final third the cigar becomes predominant earthy with some toast that lingers ever so slightly in the background. The cigar is burning perfectly right until the end with a thin carbon line and my only knock is that the experience is almost over. Just before I put the cigar down for the last time some saltiness appears
Conclusion: Black Label Trading Company & Black Works Studio have become some of my favorite cigars of late. This full bodied cigar has a lot of flavor to it and it burns nice and slow smoking longer than a petite corona. It’s a shame these are a limited edition because I would love to smoke these on the regular. I’ll just have to load up on a couple of boxes to ensure I will have some in my humidor.
