The Tatuaje Cojonu 2012 Corojo has arrived at stores in the form of Tatuaje Cojonu Two 12’s 2nd Edition. Living in New Hampshire I am blessed with one of the best brick & mortar locations; Twins Smoke Shop. Owned by Kurt Kendall, the shop has been a place I go to since I moved to the Live Free or Die State. I met my wife in his shop and countless people I am blessed to call friends. When I am looking for a new release, chances are this shop has it, locally.
The Tatuaje Cojonu is available is 5 variations; Broadleaf, Corojo, Habano, Sumatra and TUXTLA. At the 2024 trade show Tatuaje unveiled Tatuaje Cojonu Two 12’s 2nd Edition which is a book style box that contains 12 of the TUXTLA and 12 of the Corojo.
The Cojonu Two 12’s was only made available to retailers such as Kurt Kendall who purchased a set of each of the five Cojonu 2012 in their 21 count box format. For each set of 5 the retailer purchased, they were able to get 1 of the Two 12’s 2nd Edition books with a max of five books. Twins Smoke Shop has their maximum allotment.

The Cigar: Looking int he box the first thing I noticed was the secondary band which has a different look to it making it easy to identify as the Corojo wrapper. Denoting the Conoju 2012 the colors are garnet and gold and have a Florida State University feel to it. The primary band features the classic brown and white featuring the word Tatuaje with numerous fleur-de-lis off to the side. In the hand the cigar is perfectly box pressed with a nice weight and no voids of tobacco. The Corojo wrapper is virtually flawless with a nice amount of oils and a slight reddish hue.
The Taste: The cold draw features has a nice sweetness to it with an abundance of cocoa and a touch of orange marmalade which is some new for me. As the cigar dangles between my lips while I type down my thoughts the aroma of cocoa from the wrapper rises effortlessly. The foot of the cigar matches that of the cold drawn with a touch of graham.
After we toast and light out cigar there a nice amount of Corojo spice to the cigar that is quite different then the typical pepper out of the gate from My Father made cigars. The spice remains constant where it is joined by a mild wasabi encrusted peanuts and a subtle saltiness. The retrohale sees the mild wasabi become more noticeable with a lingering white pepper. As the first third comes to a close a touch of mocha begins to appear.
As we move into the second third the mocha slides into the background before disappearing relatively quick. The Tatuaje Cojonu 2012 Corojo develops a grilled steak like flavor profile with the perfect amount of char. Around the halfway point notes of espresso begin to develop over a base corojo spice.
As we move into the final third some mocha appears again that leans towards roasted coffee beans. There is a nice sweetness on the finish alongside some of the receptively mentions corojo spice. As we smoke past where the primary band would have been the cigar becomes heavier in spice with nuances of earth before I reluctantly place it in the ashtray for it to extinguish on its own.
Conclusion: There were numerous times during the course of the cigar that the Corojo wrapper gave the cigar a Dominican like feel to it which makes me wonder what the country of origin is on the the wrapper which hasn’t been disclosed. If I had to sum this up in one word, it would be different.
The Tatujue Cojonu 2012 Corojo takes a bit to get going on the few that I have smoked so far, but once it does its great addition to the Tatuaje lineup. While the 2003 Cojonu is my favorite in the lineup this once provides a nice change of pace with its classic corojo profile.
